The Legacy Of A Whitetail Deer Hunter Trailer Features Josh Brolin, Because He's In Everything This Year
When film fans look back on the 2018 summer movie season, I have no doubt it will be unofficially be referred to as the Summer of Brolin. First Josh Brolin brought Thanos to the spotlight in Avengers: Infinity War, then he played Cable in Deadpool 2, and starting tomorrow, he can be seen reprising Matt Graver in Sicario: Day of the Soldado. That does it for the actor's theatrical offerings this year, but the Summer of Brolin isn't quite done yet. His final movie of 2018, The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, hits Netflix next month, and the latest trailer has dropped that provides more story details.
For his fourth 2018 movie, Josh Brolin is playing Buck Ferguson, the host of the hunting TV show Buck Fever who is famous for hunting whitetail deer. The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter sees Buck going on another one of these hunting trips, only this time, he's bringing his son Jaden (Montana Jordan) along for the ride. Accompanied by Buck's friend and cameraman Don (Danny McBride), Buck and Jaden venture out for a weekend of hunting, which doubles as a way for Buck to reconnect with his son, as he and Jaden's mother, Caroline (Carrie Coon) are divorced. Unfortunately for Buck, Jaden isn't as enthusiastic about hunting, or nature in general, like his dad. In fact, as shown in the trailer, the first time they finally manage to track down a whitetail deer, Jaden's cell phone rings, thus scaring the animal away and frustrating Buck. But, as is often the case with these parent/children bonding movies, as the trip progresses, it looks like Buck and Jaden will indeed grow closer, though it remains to be seen if they'll ultimately take down their prey.
All of Josh Brolin's 2018 movies so far have certainly been action-packed, although Sicario: Day of the Soldado certainly doesn't have the visual effects that Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2 boasted. In contrast, The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter is a smaller scale movie emphasizing family and low-key humorous moments, arguably making it a better fit for Netflix than if it had gone with the usual theatrical release. Fun fact, this is also the latest collaboration between Danny McBride and director Jody Hill, the two of them previously working together on Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals. But for Brolin, this is his last opportunity to make an impact on 2018, and you won't even need to leave the comfort of your own home to see how he does.
