Sure, things in the DCEU might be a bit dark and adult-oriented, but the overarching DC mythos has plenty to offer when it comes to family-friendly content as well. While the adult heroes are off fighting Steppenwolf and Lex Luthor, the sidekicks have their own adventure coming in the form of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. There's a lot of anticipation for the upcoming animated DC adventure, and early reactions from the film's first screening have hit the web. In fact, the opinions seem mostly positive. Check out one such response, below!

So, as you can see from what Germain Lussier had to say about Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, it looks like the film offers up some solid comedy that will appeal to the younger audiences in the theater. Beyond that, however, his tweet also acknowledges the notion that the sidekick-centric romp features some substantial subversion of traditional superhero tropes, along with some great cameos.

That's not the only reaction to Teen Titans Go! To The Movies that has hit the web since the film's first screening. Meg Downey also had a chance to screen the the DC project, and her reaction to the movie notes that it's a genuinely funny superhero adventure that will induce some great laughs. She wrote:

Lastly, we come to Scott Menzel, who had some seriously high praise for the quality of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies. Honing in on the positives with his response, he wrote that the DC adventure has even become his favorite animated movie of 2018 -- which is impressive when we consider the recent hit release of Brad Bird's Incredibles 2 over at Disney. He wrote:

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies takes a decidedly lighter approach to some of these beloved comic book heroes. Focusing on the titular Titans (the sidekick B squad of the Justice League roster), the film follows DC mainstays like Robin, Cyborg, Raven, Beast Boy, and Starfire as they venture to Hollywood to thwart a villainous mastermind on a mission of world domination. It looks like the movie takes clear aim at some of the well-worn tropes of the superhero genre, and given the sheer saturation of traditional comic book movies in the Hollywood scene, one could make the argument that there's no better time for this type of cinematic outing.

So, that is the early critical consensus surrounding the release of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies, but there will undoubtedly be more opinions and more reactions as the sidekick-oriented, family-friendly comedy screens for more audiences. The film will open wide later this summer on July 27, 2018, and on the live-action side of the DC world, you can also catch the first solo adventure of Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) later this year when James Wan's Aquaman premieres on December 21.

First Godzilla: King Of The Monsters Image Shows The Creature Using His Atomic Breath

2014's Godzilla didn't give us as much of the famous monster as many would have liked, but the first picture of the upcoming sequel is hopefully evidence we've got some pretty solid monster action on the way. The first official image of Godzilla: King of the Monsters has been revealed and it's exactly the sort of thing monster movie fans will want to see, Godzilla showing off his power with a massive blast of his atomic breath. Check it out.

The image shows Godzilla firing his atomic breath up into the sky. It's a great way to start talking about the new film, as the use of Godzilla's atomic breath, right down the throat of another monster, was far and away the best part of the last movie. It appears to be indiscriminate, we don't see what he' shooting at, but he's almost certainly shooting at something. We know that both Mothra and Rodan, other monsters capable of flight, will be in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, so it's possible that he is fighting one of them off in this shot.

Alternatively, he could also be attacking people, like a plane flying overhead. Entertainment Weekly reveals that a large part of Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be focused on how humanity is reacting to the discovery that Godzilla exists. While the film is set five years after 2014's Godzilla, and the monster hasn't been seen since then, people are still in a complete panic over Godzilla. According to director Michael Dougherty...

The world is reacting to Godzilla in the same way we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting, but there's paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we're threatened by others like his kind.

If humanity is overreacting to the existence of Godzilla, then you can be sure when the creature does rear its head once more, people are going to respond. Has civilization spent the last five years building weapons that will hopefully be able to take the monster down? Perhaps that is what Godzilla is fighting against here.

Godzilla__: King of the Monsters is the third film in the "Monsterverse" which, in addition to the previous Godzilla, includes Kong: Skull Island. That film gave us a post-credits sequence that confirmed the existence of other monsters, many of which we will apparently see in King of the Monsters. We also know that eventually, all of this will lead to a showdown between the two most famous giant monsters in movie history.

While this single image isn't much, it's likely to get Godzilla fans excited for what is to come. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will arrive in theaters May 31, 2019.

Why Solo: A Star Wars Story Decided To Use Darth Maul

Being standalone Star Wars movies wasn't the only thing that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story had in common, as both also saw key dark side figures from a galaxy far, far away cameoing. For Rogue One, Darth Vader popped in to advise Orson Krennic not to choke on his aspirations and cut down some Rebel scum, and for Solo, Darth Maul appeared over hologram to as the head of the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate. Although Ron Howard previously explained that there were other candidates in contention to appear in that hologram, Maul's voice actor, Sam Witwer, explained that by the time he came aboard, his character had been primed to go for a while, as the foundation for the character's return was already established in Dryden Vos' lair. Witwer told CinemaBlend:

I will tell you that [Jon or Lawrence] Kasdan told me that this was always the plan. That's what he told me. So I don't mean to be putting out any information that isn't consistent with anything else, but I was told, 'Hey, there's red Mandalorian armor on that set for a reason.' Crimson Dawn! Crimson Dawn for a reason. You know, like all of these little hints. There's I believe an old, Sith-looking hologram among Dryden Vos' collection, and all manner of little, nod-of-the-head [things] just nudging you towards who's in control of this criminal empire. And the way that he explained it to me was, 'Look, we were telling a story about a criminal empire. You don't necessarily have a lot of screen time to do that in a movie, you could only give sort of a thumbnail, so why not use the criminal empire that had already been established in many, many episodes of The Clone Wars that Maul established? Why not use that? That makes sense.'

Ahead of Solo: A Star Wars Story's home media release, I had the privilege of chatting with Sam Witwer, who previously voiced Darth Maul in The Clone Wars, Rebels and several Star Wars video games. For Solo, which marked Maul's first cinematic appearance since The Phantom Menace nearly 20 years ago, Witwer handled voice duties once more while Ray Park was brought back to physically portray the character in that surprising cameo. Solo was largely Force-free, but as Witwer noted above, due to a few hints sprinkled in Dryden Vos' ship, as well as what Maul went through in The Clone Wars, it made perfect sense to have Maul be Vos' superior rather than bring in someone new or another established figure, like Jabba the Hutt.

For those who haven't kept up with Darth Maul's life post-The Phantom Menace, the former Sith Lord became a important player in the latter half of The Clone Wars, and during his time on the animated series, he created the Shadow Collective crime syndicate. By the time of the Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic book series, The Shadow Collective had fallen apart, but evidently sometime before Solo, he managed to become a intimidating, high-ranking figure in the underworld again, this time by commanding Crimson Dawn. Of course, those who've seen Rebels know what Maul's ultimate fate is, but now that Solo has shown us Maul leading a new criminal empire, the stage is set for Lucasfilm to show fans how this happened and/or follow Qi'ra's time with the tattooed Zabrak. It's unlikely this will happen in a Solo sequel given the movie's poor box office performance, but perhaps this can instead be explored in a novel or comic book series later down the line.

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be available for purchase digitally start September 14, and the Blu-ray and DVD copies will hit shelves on September 25. If you're interested in learning what other Star Wars movies are on the way, look through our handy guide.

First Look At Aquaman Villain Black Manta In The Upcoming DC Movie

When Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry returns to Atlantis later this year in Aquaman, he'll be challenged by two opponents: his half-brother Orm, better known as Ocean Master, and David Kane (his last name is Hyde in the comics), a.k.a. Black Manta. Of those two, Black Manta is definitely more visually distinct, and ever since it was announced the villain would appear in Aquaman, fans have been waiting to see how his look would be translated for the big screen. Well, we finally have our first look at the character in the upcoming movie, and sure enough, he's kept his trademark, wide-eyed helmet that he's worn for decades in the comics.

It looks like we'll have to wait a little longer to see a fully-suited Black Manta in Aquaman, but in the above picture, we see The Greatest Showman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane studying his Black Manta helmet in what looks like a workshop. Which, given Black Manta's comic book history, is presumably located on a ship or submarine. Every now and then we get a comic book movie costume that looks like it was ripped straight from the printed page, and this Black Manta helmet definitely fits that bill. And this is just the prototype! Just imagine how the finalized costume is going to look.

But even with this first peek at Black Manta, and with six months to go until Aquaman's release, director James Wan is staying mum on specific details regarding Black Manta. Here's the simple description he gave for the villain to EW:

He's part mercenary but full-time pirate who in his suit will look like some crazy alien from outer space.

James Wan also clarified that while Black Manta does play an important role in Aquaman, he's not the main antagonist. That honor belongs to Patrick Wilson's Orm, with the main story focused on Orm's adversarial relationship with Arthur Curry, his half-brother. Nevertheless, between being a ruthless pirate and wearing a suit that allows him to shoot plasma beams out of his eyes, Black Manta is not to be underestimated. If he's anything like his comic book counterpart, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Black Manta could come dangerously close to killing Aquaman. Of course, we know that the hero will ultimately emerge victorious, but since Black Manta has facial scars in the comics, I wouldn't be surprised if this iteration of the baddie also walked with a similar battle wound.

Aquaman dives into theaters on December 21, though fans in the United Kingdom will get to watch it a week earlier.
