Watch Brie Larson Literally Push A Jeep During Her Captain Marvel Training

Big screen superhero movies bring characters to life largely thanks to a combination of digital and practical effects. Real people can't do what superheroes can do, after all. However, that doesn't mean the actors don't work hard to be able to bring all they can to the role. Brie Larson is, very soon, going to join the pantheon of theatrical heroes, and she recently shared a clip of her training, that involved her pushing her trainer's jeep single-handedly. Check it out.

Brie Larson says the jeep weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,000 pounds and just by looking at it you can tell that pushing this thing is not the same as pushing your average four-door sedan. It's massive. It's difficult to tell from the camera angle, but it's also possible that Larson is pushing up a slight incline. Getting 5,000 pounds going from a dead stop would be a task even on level ground.

Larson calls this moment a training highlight and it's not hard to see why. Doing something like this was probably never something she even considered being able to do, and possibly could not do when her training for Captain Marvel began. Eventually, however, her trainer Jason Walsh helped her build the muscle necessary to pull off a massive feat like this one.

While Brie Larson still won't be doing anything superhuman, this level of training is necessary to both make the actress look like a superhero, and also to get her in shape for some of the film's action. While much of it might still be handled by stunt people, the production will likely want to use Larson as much as it can, and the better shape she is, the more she'll be able to do on set.

Captain Marvel is less than two months away and the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will take us all back in time slightly to the 1990s. A time when Nick Fury had two eyes and nobody knew anything about aliens or magic or superheroes. This is all before she swoops in to save the day in Avengers: Endgame which is something we're all expecting her to do to one degree or another.

What the future holds for Brie Larson and Captain Marvel in the MCU going into the next phase is a mystery, mostly because we have no clue what the future holds for anybody in the next phase of the MCU. Movies will happen, we're pretty sure about that, but exactly which ones, or when we'll see them, are almost entirely conjecture at this point.

We can probably be sure that Brie Larson will continue to be pushing jeeps around, though the success of Captain Marvel at the box office will go a long way in deciding that. It hits screens in April.

A movie as massive as Avengers: Infinity War probably should have earned Joe and Anthony Russo a year-long vacation before they even started thinking about Avengers: Endgame, it's mega-sized follow-up. And yet, the brothers already had agreed to film the two stories back-to-back, so that they could be released in theaters a year apart.

Apparently Avatar Was Originally Supposed To Be R-Rated

Apparently Avatar Was Originally Supposed To Be R-Rated

Although Avatar 2 is finally arriving in the next couple years after being long promised, for now, we can still only look at the Avatar mythology through one, lone entry. But what an entry it was, as it still ranks as the highest-grossing movie of all time. No doubt moviegoers young and old being able to catch it easily on the big screen helped make it such a box office juggernaut, but evidently director and franchise mastermind James Cameron originally intended Avatar to be a more adult offering, as he wrote the tale with an R rating in mind.

Several years before he started bringing Avatar to life, James Cameron was planning to deliver a cinematic adaptation of the manga Battle Angel Alita. More than a decade later, that adaptation, Alita: Battle Angel, is only months away from arriving in theaters, with Robert Rodriguez having directed it instead and Cameron remaining involved as a producer. While speaking with Screen Rant about a particular difference between Alita: Battle Angel's version of one of the characters versus how they're depicted in the manga, Rodriguez revealed the following about Avatar:

Yeah, because it's a graphic novel they can go really out there and part of what Jim [Cameron] did on Avatar originally, he wrote that to be an R-rated movie. He knew he needed to pull some stuff back so it could be for all audiences, PG-13. And so we certainly keep a good balance I think, especially because with cyborg action you can do a lot more, but I think we keep the right tone. And people who enjoy the graphic novel, we don't go as far as the graphical stuff but it still really is hard-hitting and they still collect heads and all that stuff.

Creatively speaking, seeing an R-rated Avatar would have been interesting, particularly when it came to the war scenes. Imagine how much more intense that battle between the Na'vi and Colonel Miles Quaritch's forces would have looked had there been extra gore and graphic elements. Still, like it or not, slapping an R-rating on a movie means it's not going to reach as many eyes, since the only ways kids will be able to see it on the big screen is if they're accompanied by an adult.

In terms of reaching the widest audience possible, James Cameron making Avatar a PG-13 offering instead was the right call. Arriving right just a week before Christmas, people across the world came out in droves to see it. Across its initial theatrical release, as well as the re-release in the summer of 2010, it made over $2.7 billion worldwide. No matter what its quality, if Avatar been rated R, it's highly unlikely, if not just impossible, that it would have made anywhere near that amount of money. And with a movie like Avatar that pours a lot of cash into visual effects, making a profit is even more important.

Given how well Avatar performed commercially, you can be sure that for the Avatar sequels, those will also be rated PG-13. Let's also not forget that as of last year, Disney also boasts the "Pandora - The World of Avatar" attraction area within Animal Kingdom. Avatar obviously isn't at the same level of wholesomeness as the likes of Mickey Mouse or the many Princesses, but like the action-packed Star Wars and Marvel franchises, it can still cater to a family-friendly demographic. Now that 20th Century Fox will soon be incorporated into the Disney empire... I mean, family, you can bet the Mouse House will want to keep Avatar in that PG-13 territory.

Next month will mark nine years since Avatar was released, and while James Cameron has been saying for most of that time that sequels are on the way, it was only when filming began in summer of 2017 that it was finally confirmed that these projects would see the light of day. One of the reasons it took so long for the Avatar sequels to get off the ground is because new filmmaking technology had to be developed for shooting underwater, as Avatar 2 will spend a fair amount of time in Pandora's oceans.

Beyond that, no specific plot details for Avatar 2 or the other sequels have been revealed yet. However, it was reported last month that the sequels could be called (in no particular order) Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar: The Tulkun Rider and Avatar: The Quest for Eywa. None of these titles have been confirmed yet.

On the casting side of things, most of the main cast from the first Avatar are confirmed to return for the sequels, chief among them Sam Worthington's Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana's Neytiri, who now have three children. The most surprising of the returning faces, though, are Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Matt Gerald, as all of whose characters died. Weaver has confirmed she'll be playing someone different as opposed to reprising Dr. Grace Augustine, but it remains to be seen how Lang and Gerald fit into the picture.

As far as newcomers go, arguably the most prominent of the bunch is Kate Winslet, who will play Ronal, a free diver from the Metkayina tribe, in Avatar 2. Along with various other actors cast as Metkayina tribespeople, Jack Champion is playing Javier "Spider" Socorro, a teenager born on Pandora's human base, while Oona Chaplin and David Thewlis have been cast in undisclosed roles.

James Cameron has confirmed that both Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 have wrapped principal photography, but there's still a long way to go before they hit theaters. Avatar 2 is scheduled for release on December 18, 2020, followed by Avatar 3 on December 17, 2021, Avatar 4 on December 20, 2024 and Avatar 5 on December 19, 2025 (those Cameron has said those last two movies are contingent on its two predecessors being financially successful.

Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates on how the Avatar franchise is progressing, but in the meantime, you can look through our 2019 release schedule to learn what movies are coming out next year.

I am insanely excited for Avatar 2 and wishing I could see the original 3D version of the first in the theater again. How Robert Downey Jr. Felt Watching Spider-Man's Death In Infinity War

How Robert Downey Jr. Felt Watching Spider-Man's Death In Infinity War

If youre not a hunk of weeping personhood the moment Peter Parker collapses into Tony Starks arms, pleading for his own life in the face of Avengers: Infinity Wars Decimation, you just might be a stone cold professional. The moment is one of the most emotionally taxing events in that films mass casualty finale and, for some, its still pretty upsetting. Of course, for Robert Downey Jr., being one of those lovable stone cold professionals, its a scene that didnt really hit him until he sat down to watch it play out himself.

Robert Downey Jr.s story of how Spider-Mans death in Avengers: Infinity War finally hit him, and why its so effective in general, is as follows:

It was crazy to shoot it, but it was just another day, and then we were at lunch and doing stuff, because its a movie. But then I think seeing it -- and I happened to see it with this amazing Scottish kid who couldn't go to a theater -- so I saw it with him, and his reaction really effed me up. So I think what a lot of us are looking forward to is, like Kevin [Feige] always says, it's that surprise and delight experience with Endgame. It's one of those things where you go, 'Wow, I think we just made a pretty serious choice. But I think audiences like that. I think audiences are so smart and now so... they require to not be fed the same drivel as even twenty minutes ago. We need novelty and I think what the Russos and Kevin have been able to do is provide that in spades.

CinemaBlend was on hand to hear this story at the Avengers: Endgame press conference, as our own Eric Eisenberg was in attendance. And what Robert Downey Jr. said doesnt sound all that weird -- as in the moment of filming Avengers: Infinity Wars big emotional moment, its still kind of easy to get wrapped up in the fact that theres several takes to be filmed, so its easier to come back from that emotional investment.

Of course, with an audience that doesnt know whats coming, as well as within the confines of the narrative that Avengers: Infinity War put forth, its a completely different context. Despite the fact that pretty much everyone thats picked up a comic book knows that Spider-Man wont be dead for long, seeing Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. really sell the moment jumps right over that logical hurdle and lands straight into the hearts of anyone watching.

The fact that this particular scene landed how it did with the Iron Man actor looks to have informed his performance in Avengers: Endgame, as the recent footage showing the moment where Tony reflects on Peters departure suggests that very possibility. Though if some of the theories that have come out in the past couple of rounds of speculation pan out, we just might find ourselves knocked out by Tony Starks fate in the long run.

Everything and nothing feels like a surprise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as the choices made by the Russo Brothers and Kevin Feige fit into the Avengers storyline, while also throwing audiences for a loop. But when you can draw a reaction out of an actor like Robert Downey Jr. while watching those big choices unfold in a film like Avengers: Infinity War, you know youve done your job well.

Avengers: Endgame puts the Infinity Saga to bed, and probably revives Spider-Man in time for his sequel, on April 26th. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Far From Home takes off for adventure on July 5th. Should you want to see what else is in the works in the MCU, and whatever their release dates may be in the future, keep our Upcoming Marvel Movies guide in your bookmarks for further reference.

Stan Lee Didnt Get To See Avengers: Endgame Before He Died

Stan Lee Didnt Get To See Avengers: Endgame Before He Died

Avengers: Endgame Spoilers Ahead

It's been weeks since Avengers: Endgame hit theaters, and the conversation surrounding the blockbuster is showing no signs of slowing. With the spoiler ban lifted, the cast and crew have been able to reveal more details, and answer lingering questions left after the film concluded. Endgame also marked Stan Lee's final cameo in the MCU, due to his death in November of 2018.

Stan Lee's Avengers: Endgame cameo doesn't disappoint, but unfortunately it doesn't look like the comic book icon got to see it before his passing. Kevin Feige recently broke the news that Lee didn't get to see Endgame, saying:

Stan loved to wait to see the final movie at the premiere, so unfortunately he did not get to see the finished movie. Stan got a download of the full story the day he came and shot his cameo.

What a bummer. But while Stan Lee didn't get to watch the epic and complex narrative of Avengers: Endgame before passing away, he was at least cued into movie's contents. And his final cameo is definitely one for the record books.

Kevin Feige's reveal about Stan Lee came from the Marvel Studio Head's recent Reddit AMA. Feige answered a variety of questions concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe-- both its past and future. When asked if Lee got a chance to check out an early screener of Avengers: Endgame before his death, Feige revealed that the comic book legend preferred seeing them on the big screen.

It's that same childlike wonder that is what makes Stan Lee such a legend, and why his creations were able to transcend pop culture. And considering how visually stunning Avengers: Endgame was, it deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible.

Related: Marvel Is Making A Supercut Of Stan Lee Cameos And Unused Footage

Especially the absolutely behemoth final battle at the Avengers Compound, which saw the dusted characters and countless characters engage Thanos' army. The visual effects are stunning, with a ton of action and characters to follow in every frame. It's only a shame that Stan Lee wasn't able to enjoy every payoff and applause-inducing moment.

Stan Lee appeared in Avengers: Endgame in the film's second act, during the super ambitious Time Heist sequence. After accidentally allowing Loki to escape with the Space Stone, Cap and Tony traveled back to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters in 1970. As the exterior of the facility is set up, we see a car driving by with the license plate "excelsior". Lee is behind the wheel, telling the government agency to make love, not war.

It's hard to imagine the Marvel Cinematic Universe without Stan Lee, especially his iconic cameos. But his vision continues to live in the blood of the massive franchise, which is showing no signs of slowing down.

You can catch Stan Lee in Avengers: Endgame, which is ramping up for yet another weekend at the box office. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
