Brie Larson Has Captain Marvel Jeans And We Need Our Own Pair Now

Actors seems to have as much fun working on Marvel Studios movies as we do watching them. You often see a sense of ownership come over the actors tapped to play these iconic characters, whether its Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Chris Evans as Captain America, or Tom Holland as the latest Spider-Man. (For real, check his Instagram!) Add Brie Larson to the list of proud MCU members. She kicked off her stint with a fantastic behind-the-scenes Comic-Con photo that announced her casting. And her latest image has her rocking Captain Marvel jeans in this stellar Instagram shot:

This is exactly what I would do. If I were a Marvel Studios hire, associated with a particular character, every fiber of my being would be linked to that famous hero (or, yes, villain). Hell, I already wear my fair share of Marvel-branded shirts, hats and sweatshirts, But I'm not sure if Benedict Cumberbatch is going to sport skinny jeans that have the Eye of Agamotto on them. Actually, if those don't exist, someone invent them, and send me a pair.

All of these photographic insights give us better preparation into the type of character that Brie Larson is attempting to build in next year's Captain Marvel. The patch on Brie Larson's jeans was seen on a communication device that Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) used to reach out to Carol Danvers. Where has she been? What has she been doing? And what did she do that required her to leave our planet? So many questions. The movie will have answers!

Captain Marvel will be in theaters on March 8, 2019. Co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, it introduces Carol Danvers (Larson) in a 1990s set adventure that will serve as an origin story, while also broadening the cosmic side of the MCU. The movie co-stars Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Annette Bening, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan and Clark Gregg. Suspiria Director Says He Wants Movie To Be The 'Most Disturbing Experience You Can Have'

Audiences looking for a frightful time at the theater have already had a great year in 2018, with more testaments to the ongoing horror renaissance giving us plenty of reasons to be afraid of the dark. Fortunately, the back half of the year looks just as scary with The Nun, Halloween and Mandy still to come. However, the most terrifying film on the horizon may be the remake of Suspiria. The footage we've seen so far is deeply unsettling and that is no accident. Director Luca Guadagnino wants Suspiria to be truly disturbing, as he explained:

I hope that the movie comes across as a relentless experience that's going to go deep into your skin all the way down into your spine. I want the movie to perform as the most disturbing experience you can have. The movie is about being immersed in a world of turmoil and uncompromising darkness.

Wow, that's got to be just about the coolest thing you could ever hope for a horror director to say about his film. The R rating for Suspiria and the reasons for it already assured us that this movie would not be for the faint of heart, but what Luca Guadagnino is speaking to here is more than that. Beyond just being scary, the director is hoping that Suspiria will get under your skin and stay there as the most disturbing experience you can have. Those are quite lofty goals that really hype this movie as something that will mess with your head and haunt you long after you leave the theater.

Another comment Luca Guadagnino made to The Hollywood Reporter was that that he wants the movie to be a relentless experience. That tells me that there will be no reprieve, and few safe moments in the film to catch your breath. The disturbing nature of the film will keep you in a constant state of tension as you witness this dark tale. At least, that's Guadagnino's goal. And an ambitious one it is.

There is a stark difference between a movie just being scary and being both scary and disturbing. If there is one thing that has come across from the trailers for Suspiria so far it's that it will be very unsettling, creeping you out in an indefinable way that is hard to describe, but extremely effective. Something about the way its shot, the framing, the performances all contribute to this effect. This seems similar to Black Swan, ironically another movie about a dance company, which was unsettling throughout. Which is luckily the effect the trailers for Suspiria have had and presumably the film will also envelop you in.

Star Wars: Galaxys Edge Features A Ship From Colin Trevorrows Episode IX

Youll recall that before J.J. Abrams returned to the Star Wars franchise to direct The Rise of Skywalker, what was then simply known as Episode IX was going to be helmed by Jurassic Worlds Colin Trevorrow. Due to creative differences with Lucasfilm, Trevorrow departed the final installment of the Skywalker Saga in September 2017, but one element from his version of the Star Wars movie can now be seen at the new Disneyland attraction Star Wars: Galaxys Edge: a ship called the TIE Echelon.

Star Wars: Galaxys Edge is now open to the public at Disneyland (if you have a reservation), but needless to say that it takes a long time for that large of an attraction to be constructed. By the time Colin Trevorrow departed Star Wars: Episode IX, Galaxys Edge was nearly a year and a half into the construction process, and even though well never see Trevorrows Episode IX, the TIE Echelon was kept as one of several life-sized ships on display.

As for what specific use the TIE Echelon had during combat, heres what Colin Trevorrow revealed:

It was part of an upgraded First Order fleet. An armed troop transportthe equivalent of a Blackhawk stealth helicopter. We wanted it to evoke memories of earlier ships while still being its own thing. If you look at the elements, its kind of a hybrid of designs from VII and VIII, with some familiar elements from OT Tie Fighters like Vaders Advanced x1. Theres a lot of history in it.

If theres one thing you can count on from The Empire and The First Order, its a lot of variations on the TIE Fighter. Assuming Colin Trevorrows Episode IX also took place a year after The Last Jedi like The Rise of Skywalker does, that would presumably give The First Order enough time to get numerous TIE Echelons into the fight against the Resistance, which has now resorted to guerrilla tactics against the Kylo Ren-led tyrannic force.

Alas, it doesnt sound like the TIE Echelon will appear in J.J. Abrams Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but because the ship is on display in Galaxys Edge, perhaps thats enough incentive to feature it in a Star Wars TV series, video game or novel down the line. At least The Rise of Skywalker wont be lacking in special TIE starfighters, as the teaser trailer shows Rey leaping over one, which is almost certainly being piloted by Kylo Ren.

Colin Trevorrow also said the following during his interview with Collider about his involvement with Star Wars: Galaxys Edge and the behind-the-scenes story on creating the TIE Echelon:

It was just a natural part of the process. The Imagineering team asked us to develop a new ship for the park while we were designing the film. I took it pretty seriouslyits not every day you get to be a part of something like that. They let me see what they were working on, so I got to see what Galaxys Edge was going to be. I think what theyve created is incredible. Its such an immersive experience.

The director didnt elaborate on provide any details on the sequence where the TIE Echelon would have shown up in Episode IX, but he still loves that ship. As for the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker that is being released for the masses, specific plot details are still being kept under wraps, but itll result in the ancient conflict between the Jedi and Sith reaching its climax.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, and those without a reservation can check out Star Wars: Galaxys Edge starting June 24.
